Sampey Professor of Old Testament Interpretation at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary will lead the class through an examination of the themes the times and the witness to Jesus Christ through the eyes and words of Luke as we have them in his Gospel. . . . 8220I too decided after investigating everything carefully from the very first to write an orderly account for you most excellent Theophilus so that you may know the truth concerning the things about which you have been instructed8221 Luke 1:3amp4.Thus begins the third gospel account of the life times and lasting effect of Jesus of Nazareth. In this lively account we find some of the most well-known and beloved stories of the New Testament that are not found in the other gospels stories like the Good Samaritan and the Prodigal Son. Luke the Greek Gentile physician had a unique emphasis on reporting events within the historical context. Thus in Luke we find the most familiar telling of the events surrounding the birth of Jesus. Luke also had a concern for the weak and the poor and his focus on how Jesus ministered to the least and the lost frames and inspires much of our own mandate toward seeking after justice and caring for the poor. This in-depth study will enliven your faith and inspire you to live an actively and openly Christian life. ::::::: Location: Graves Hall - , ,

Gospel of Luke - 5/16/2012 6:30 PM

Dr. Duane Garrett will resume his study of Luke on Wednesday nights beginning May 2 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in 201202. Several years ago Curtis noticed that there was always extra food leftover from the events right here at St. Francis. Moved by the needs he saw of homeless individuals living downtown Curtis began a ministry whereby he took our own extra food and fed whoever would come to the trunk of his car. This ministry has now grown to the point where much of the canned goods are donated by local entities however the areas of food pick-up food preparation serving and clean-up are in need of people who are willing to fulfill the call to feed the hungry. There is an ongoing need to purchase meats condiments and serving supplies. Your tax deductible donations are always needed and appreciated. Please make out your checks to St. Francis in the Fields and write 8220Loaves and Fishes8221 on the memo line and give to Carol Brady Parish Bookkeeper.MINISTRY CONTACT: Curtis Taylor 502-718-5264 or ctaylor502lor502@msn.com
